the addition of a banksy piece on the wall of a derelict pub in liverpool could send the price rocketing. the whitehouse pub, on the corner of berry street and duke street, has been valued at around £495,000, but with banksy’s marker pen scrawling rat now covering the wall ‘experts’ think it could fetch anywhere up to £1million.
banksy did the piece in 2004, during the biennial festival, although not commissioned by the festival’s organiser’s it was widely incorporated into the celebrations. campaigners complained earlier this year because the bottom half of the grade II listed building had been covered up as it was falling into disrepair. shortly after the complaints rolled in the hoarding was removed.
after posting this i checked banksy’s site, as i haven’t for a while, and came accross the shop section…genius, just don’t use it to start a business!
