this one’s for anyone on the other side of the pond, don’t sleep on this! this friday (jan 16th) sees the opening of a new martha cooper exhibition at subliminal projects gallery (1331 W Sunset Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90026) which will run until the 16th feb. i would love to see the exhibition over here at some point! martha cooper has been documenting hip hop and graffiti culture for over 30 years and has a number of books to her name. this exhibition brings these classic images alongside a selection of ’street shots’, depicting children playing in homemade go-karts, building fort’s out of scrap and catching flies in coke bottles.
the opening of the exhibition also marks the release of her new book; Going Postal, a collection of photos of postal labels bearing street art PLUS her image collaboration with Shepard Fairey, available as a screen-print poster; and her own Obey line, with photos printed on clothing, bags, and skateboards. you’ll be able to get your mitts on all of the above at the exhibition along with martha’s other books Subway Art, Hip Hop Files, Street Play, We B*Girlz and Tag Town.
