Just a quick heads up to anyone in Sydney, heat #3 of the very first Secret Wars Australia is tonight at Name This Bar, 197 Oxford Street Darlinghurst. Tonight battling in black & white it’s BRIDGE STEHLI v HOUL. Painting kicks off at 8:30pm, but happy hour’s from 4-7pm, so get down early for $4 tap beers, $5 Dumpling boxes and $6 Mojitos. Also as tomorrow is good friday be prepared for tonight to be busier than normal, so just another reason to get down early for happy hour!

The heads at Ironlak are putting a free live demo day at the Graphotism headquarters on sunday 4th April from 11am til 5pm. Painters present will include AROE and GARY, members of the world class M.S.K. and H.A. crews who now rep the UK chapter of the Ironlak worldwide family.

Well the film is in full swing now and has gained a fair amount of critics and lovers at the same time.  It’s now showing at various locations across the country so if you get the opportunity to then make sure you go see it.  I’m sure you will not be disappointed.

Banksys documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop” (trailer below) will be shown at the Sundance Film Festival 2010 in Park City, Utah between the 24th jan and the 30th. The film is shot in the UK and the USA with a running time of 89 minutes. For screening times and more info check the Sundance website. The films website is www.banksyfilm.com and is due to open in UK cinemas on the 5th of March.

John Cooper, director of Sundance, described the film as “one of those films that comes along once in a great while, a warped hybrid of reality and self-induced fiction, while at the same time a totally entertaining experience. The story is so bizarre I began to question if it could even be real … but in the end I didn’t care.”

“I feel bad I won’t be able to shake the filmmaker’s hand and tell him how much I love this film. I think I will shake everyone’s hand that day and hope I hit on Banksy somewhere. I love his work in all forms.”

A friend pointed me in the direction of this site, showing me the anti-theft lunch bags, a must have for anybody who suffers a sandwichless lunch at the hand of a sticky fingered co-worked. The site is the home to creative duo Mihoko Ouchi and Sherwood Forlee, who collectively make up the. Whilst on the site I spotted another of their fine offerings, the Walls Notebook. This little beauty has 80 clean NYC walls (160 pages) for you to scribble on. Almost 4 decades after Taki183s signature scrawl started appearing all over New York, the 57 year old Greek has surfaced to tell his story. With his website up last year offering information and images spanning the life of Taki183, his story is being told. german site, I Love Graffiti recently published an interview with Taki183 by Roger Gastman. Taki, where did you grow up?

I grew up in Washington Heights, moved there when I was a little kid. A lot of Greeks at the time stayed with the Greeks, then that changed with the Heights, the183th street, hung out with everybody and it was a pretty nice place to grow up.

Is it safe to say Washington Heights was the birthplace of modern graffiti in New York City?

I would say the east side of Manhattan was the birthplace of graffiti because that’s where the media picked it up. They couldn’t give a crap what happened in Washington Heights or the Bronx. When it happened on the east side, that’s when it was in the paper.

When you started writing graffiti, what were you calling it? Did you call it tagging or writing?

I think we were calling it writing, but if we saw a subway car we would say, “Let’s go hit the car.” If you hit it from end to end, you’d “kill the car”— that was how we talked Part of the reason it became big during the summer of ’70 is because I was going to summer school at George Washington High School and my desk was full of graffiti. I had written my name and all these people would write on my table also. I already had a name and people were meeting me and they would go out and write. That was the big summer I was working as a messenger. I was in a lot of places and I just kept writing; as long as I had a marker I’d keep writing. It was addictive.

I’ve got a lot more to put up and shoot I just need to sort them all out…This was just down the road on Johnston St a day before it got buffed. Literally on my road, Argyle St, is a piece that I’m sure has come from the new Krink 8 litre applicator, I only say that as I recently found out that the promo vid (below) was shot in Melbourne…but it could just be from a home made spray pump…will shoot it and put up when I get back to Melbourne.
